Paramount has finally unveiled the official trailer for The Rhythm Sections. This thriller is adapted from the best-selling novel Stephanie Patrick Thrillers by Mark Burnell. He also wrote the script.
It’s the story of a woman, Stephanie Patrick, who uncovers the truth behind a plane crash that killed her family.
The film begins three years after the crash, with Stephanie heading down a dark place, developing an opioid and alcohol addictions, then she meets a detective and decides to get revenge for her family’s death.
The female character is plays by Gossip Girl actress Blake Lively. She’s unrecognizable in the role of this action revengeful woman. She’s joins by Jude Law (as the detective), Max Casella, Daniel Mays, Richard Brake, Raza Jaffrey, Tawfeek Barhom, and Sterling K. Brown.
This international spy thriller is directed by Reed Morano, who won a directing Emmy award for The Handmaid’s Tale. “A lot of these movies that have had female action heroes make you feel like they’re male fantasies of what a woman would be like in this situation. This is much more gritty and realistic”, said the moviemaker.
Indeed, Stephanie’s vulnerabilities are shown, and it’s not a non-stop action, Morano adds, even if the trailer shows a lot of fighting and explosions.
“She’s scared shitless but fights for her life. She doesn’t have real training or expertise but she has the primal power of the human will“, Lively said about her leading role in the film.
The Rhythm Section will be in theaters on January 31,2020. In the meantime, watch the trailer here:
