Tom Hanks is set to receive the Cecil B DeMille award at the 2020 Golden Globe awards, as announced by The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). This prize represents a lifetime achievement that, in the past, was received by such actors as Sean Connery, Al Pacino, Jeff Bridges, Denzel Washington, George Clooney, Meryl Streep and Oprah Winfrey.
The 63-year-old actor will be given this honourable award, which is handed out every year for “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment”, for his outstanding performances in movies such as Philadelphia, Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan and more.
“For more than three decades, he’s captivated audiences with rich and playful characters. As compelling as he is on the silver screen, he’s equally so behind the camera as a writer, producer and director”, said Lorenzo Soria, the organisation’s president.
Despite being very special, this prize will be Hank’s fifth Golden Globe, since he has also received three Golden Globes for ‘Best Actor in a Drama’ and one for ‘Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy’. Hanks made his debut in the 1988 movie Big and, in 1995, he became the second ever male actor to win back-to-back ‘Best Actor’ Oscar awards.
This award enriches the actor’s fantastic career and we will be able to admire him on the big screen, very soon, in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, where he’ll play US children’s television host Fred Rogers.
