Netflix has just unveiled a new trailer for the series The Witcher, one the most awaited releases of the year for the streaming platform. The series is based on the best-selling series of books by Andrzej Sapkowski, which also inspired a number of popular video games, with The Witcher 3 selling more than 20 million copies.
The fantasy fiction trailer stars Henry Cavill, who played Superman in past DC movies and took part in Showtime series The Tudors. Cavill interpretes Geralt of Rivia, a solitary man who bobs about the Continent (the actual name of the continent where he lives) to hunt monsters, elves, vampires and werewolves.
The trailer has strong Game of Thrones vibes, with similar logos, mediaeval atmospheres and powerful soundtracks. Most likely, The Witcher will try to attract the HBO series fans, after the final season ended this May.
Netflix previously shared a statement to introduce the series: “‘The Witcher’ is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts, but when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together”.
The eight-episode The Witcher will be launched on December 20, in the meantime, watch the epic new trailer below:
