Champyons, a rising indie-rock three-piece from Berlin, have dropped a brand-new single called “Two Cents”. The song about a homeless person lost in a modern city chaos showcases the band’s remarkable songwriting skills.
The trio comprised of Dennis Neuer (vocals, keys, production), Felix Drachau (bass, guitar) and Phil Koelzer (drums) started playing music together over fifteen years ago, when the band members were still in school. Throughout their career, Champyons have developed their own unique style which is a mixture of various genres from R&B and classic rock to modern electronica.
Having finished their education, the band went on to support the likes of Metronomy and Scanners. In 2011, Champyons first gained international attention, when hitmaker Zedd remixed their song “Changes” for Skrillex’ EP called Free Treats. Three years later, the group self-released their successful single “Roaming In Paris”, a blend of story-based lyrics and R&B influences.
In 2017, Champyons shared their debut LP Cha Cha Cha, which they recorded by themselves, with the help of acclaimed engineer and producer Axel Reinemer (Rihanna, Jason Derulo). Now, the band are back with “Two Cents”, the first single released on their own label, Original L Records.
The captivating track is sung from the perspective of a homeless wanderer lost in a modern city. Reminiscent of Lana Del Rey’s signature dark pop sound, “Two Cents” displays Dennis Neuer’s knack for telling relatable, compelling stories.
