Jason Sudeikis and Evangeline Lilly have signed on to star in the upcoming thriller, Till Death. Aharon Keshales – who co-directed the 2013 Israeli black comedy thriller Big Bad Wolves, an excellent film that Quentin Tarantino dubbed his favourite of that entire year – will direct.
Till Death revolves around Jimmy, a convicted felon granted early parole after serving twelve years in prison for armed robbery. He reconnects with the love of his life, Annie, who has terminal cancer, and plans to use his newfound freedom to make sure her remaining days are the best she’s ever had. This being both a thriller and, you know, a movie, things don’t go as planned.
Keshales described the film as “a love story that got stuck in a Sam Peckinpah action-thriller”, which sounds terrific. It sounds as if the genre-mashing he did with Big Bad Wolves has carried over to this film. He has also written the script alongside Big Bad Wolves co-director Navot Papushado and Kai Mark.
Lilly is a familiar face in genre films, with her most notable role being The Wasp in Marvel’s Ant-Man movies. Sudeikis is a more surprising bit of casting. He’s usually known for his comedy roles, but he’s expanded his range recently with dramatic performances in films such as Colossal and Kodachrome. It will be interesting to see him in a thriller.
Keshales actually has another project in works right now. It’s an action film titled Gunpowder that stars Karen Gillan, Lena Headey, and Michelle Yeoh. Till Death will likely go into production first though, as it’s expected to begin shooting in January.
