Brian Tyree Henry has joined the cast of Sony’s upcoming action-thriller Bullet Train, which will star Brad Pitt and also boasts the likes of Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Andrew Koji.
David Leitch (Deadpool 2, Hobbs & Shaw) is directing from a script written by Zak Olkewicz (Fear Street). The film is based on the popular Japanese manga Maria Beetle by best-selling author Kotaro Isaka.
The plot of the film will revolve around five assassins who all find themselves on the same train from Tokyo to Morioka. However, it’s unclear how much of the source material will be translated for this new version, and we don’t yet know who Henry will be playing. But it does sound like a perfect excuse for Leitch’s impressive stunts and choreography that he brings to all his movies.
Henry broke out on FX’s Atlanta and had a huge 2018 with roles in films such as Widows, If Beale Street Could Talk, and Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. He’s got a bunch of other exciting projects lined up too, including a supporting role in Amy Adams‘ The Woman In The Window, starring alongside Melissa McCarthy in HBO Max’s Superintelligence, and a key role in Godzilla vs. Kong.
But bigger than all of those is his role as Phastos in Marvel’s Eternals, which was originally supposed to arrive next month before being delayed thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. It will now hit cinemas (hopefully) next November. He also has an intriguing drama titled Red, White & Water lined up, which will also star Jennifer Lawrence.
We’ll wait and see how quickly Bullet Train moves into production. Obviously it must have a set date so that Henry knew he could fit it into his busy schedule. We’ll be seeing a lot of him over the next few years.
