Amazon Studios has released the first trailer for Without Remorse, the upcoming Tom Clancy adaptation which stars Michael B. Jordan as Navy SEAL John Kelly.
Directed by Stefano Sollima (Sicario: Soldado), Without Remorse sees Jordan star as Sr. Chief John Kelly (known as John Clark in Clancy’s books), who must avert all-out war between the United States and Russia while simultaneously tracing down the operatives that killed his family.
While the synopsis sounds like your run-of-the-mill action thriller, the film looks pretty stylish. The Sicario sequel didn’t live up to the original, but it still had a perfectly gloomy tone and atmosphere. If Sollima can add that aesthetic to a better script, with a more dynamic star in form of Jordan at the center, this could be good.
Sollima is directing from a script by Taylor Sheridan (who also wrote both Sicario movies, as well as Hell Or High Water) and Will Staples (Sweet Girl). The film also stars Jamie Bell, Jodie Turner-Smith, Brett Gelman, Colman Domingo, and Guy Pearce.
Amazon have tried to go down this action route multiple times already, most famously with the John Krasinski Jack Ryan series (also created by Clancy). Obviously they see Clancy adaptations as a major money maker. If Without Remorse hits, expect multiple sequels.
The film arrives on Amazon Prime Friday, April 30.
