Mark Wahlberg has signed on to star in Stu, a drama being written and directed by Rosalind Ross, who will make her directorial debut with the project. Wahlberg will produce along with his producing partner and manager Stephen Levinson.
Plot details are mostly under wraps right now, but we do know that the film will be faith-based and loosely connected to a true story. Wahlberg has reportedly been developing the project for a number of years.
He’s an actor whose schedule is usually filled years in advance, so when an opening occurred at the top of the year, Wahlberg saw it as the perfect opportunity to finally move forward with the film. The actor was also reportedly impressed by Ross and knew she was the right person to tell the story. Financing was quickly locked in, and production is due to begin next month.
Wahlberg is currently wrapping filming on the Uncharted video game adaptation that will star Tom Holland, while he’s also working on Lionsgate drama Arthur The King. He has Antoine Fuqua‘s action movie Infinite due later this year.
Although this will mark Ross’ feature directorial debut, she is developing multiple other films, which include her spec script Barbarian, which previously earned a spot on the 2016 Black List of best unproduced screenplays.
