Netflix‘s hit series Mindhunter could be back for a third season. The idea seemed to have been abandoned by Netflix for good, but talks are said to have resumed between the streaming giant and director David Fincher.
Indeed, Small Screen reported that a source close to Netflix claims that the streamer and David Fincher are in talks for a third season.
“It’s still very early days, but Fincher sounds more upbeat about the project” according to the source.
In January 2020, all hopes of a third season were dashed after Netflix released all of the series’ main actors Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany and Anna Torv from their contracts. In addition, Netflix had declared they were to put season three on hold indefinitely.
As a reminder, Mindhunter is a psychological thriller series about two FBI agents in the 1970s who investigate the psyche of serial killers of the time. Although the series is one of Netflix’s best original series and has attracted a passionate audience, it was not generating enough viewers to justify the high investment the series cost the streamer.
But since that decision a year ago, a lot has changed, David Fincher has signed a four-year exclusive development deal with Netflix, and his drama Mank has been nominated for an Oscar. This could make Netflix and the director want to continue Mindhunter.
It is important to remember that Netflix has not yet made any announcement on the subject, and the two parties are currently only in discussion, a discussion that could lead to nothing.
Even if this news gives hope to the fans of the series, we will have to wait for official announcements before celebrating!
