If you are a fan of real crime docuseries, this is going to interest you. The streaming giant Netflix is launching a brand new docuseries titled The Sons of Sam: A Descent Into Darkness on May 5. This series will be based on a real crime case from the crimes of David Berkowitz.
David was the serial killer who pleaded guilty to eight separate shooting attacks that happened in New York City during the summer of 1976. Around this case, a strange phenomenon such as satanic panic arose as a result of his killings, which is still a taboo subject nowadays.
In the spotlight of the series is journalist Maury Terry, who obsessed over the case and studied it during most of his career. Terry was sure that Berkowitz wasn’t the only one responsible for the killing spree he was charged with. Quickly, rumours spread that he was helped by a group of satanists working alongside Berkowitz behind the scenes.
Berkowitz, who also called himself the ‘Son of Sam’, continued to fascinate and horrify the world after his arrest, admitting to being a member of a violent, murderous satanic cult. He is still serving his sentence at Shawangunk Correctional Facility in New York.
On May 5, two episodes from the series will premiere, with two more episodes of the four-part series to air shortly after. In the meantime, please find the trailer for the series below, and start to think about your own theories…
