We now know the first cast members of the upcoming Eva Longoria-directed film Flamin’ Hot and it is none other than Jesse Garcia, who will play Richard Montanez, the creator of the Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, and Annie Gonzalez who will play his wife.
The film tells the true story of Richard Montanez, Frito Lay’s caretaker and creator of the famous Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, one of the snacks that turned the food industry on its head and became a pop culture phenomenon.
As previously reported, many directors were vying for this film, as this is a highly coveted story, but it was none other than the producer of Telenovela, Grand Hotel, Devious Maids and actress of the cult series Desperate Housewives, Eva Longoria, that landed the coveted director’s role.
Jesse Garcia has previously been seen in his highly acclaimed role in the film Quinceañera, which won the Audience Award and Grand Jury Prize at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, and in The Avengers. Annie Gonzalez is known for her roles in Gentefied, Vida, Shameless and Legion.
Longoria said in a statement, “It has been my biggest priority to make sure we are telling Richard Montañez’s story authentically. I am so happy to have two extremely talented and fellow Mexican-Americans on board in these pivotal roles. Jesse and Annie have a deep understanding of our community and will be able to help tell this story of great importance for our culture”.
The film is expected to begin shooting this summer in New Mexico, and Searchlight has not yet set a release date.
