After a mysterious teaser a few days ago, British band Coldplay has finally released a single called “Higher Power” with an accompanying video.
For the launch of the song, the band has done a great job. French astronaut Thomas Pesquet was the first to discover this first single, from the international space station, after a ten-minute chat with the band Coldplay.
“We had had premieres of movies on the ISS, but I’m pretty sure this was the first song released in extraterrestrial space before being released on!!! Thanks @coldplay for the chat!”, the astronaut enthused in a tweet.
Coldplay then released the video for their new track on YouTube and their social media channels, which features alien holograms dancing in the middle of the band.
In a tweet announcing “Higher Power” last week, Coldplay said the song “arrived on a little keyboard and a bathroom sink at the start of 2020″. The band also noted that the song was produced by hitmaker Max Martin, whom they described as “a true wonder of the universe”.
“Higher Power” marks Coldplay’s big comeback in two years. The band’s last album, Everyday Life, was released in 2019.
Coldplay will perform the song on American Idol this Sunday and will also perform it at the BRIT Awards next week.
Later this month, Coldplay will headline the virtual livestream at Glastonbury Festival, which will be broadcast on May 22. The line-up will also include Haim, Damon Albarn, Idles, Jorja Smith and Michael Kiwanuka.
