Lana Condor is planning her next career move now that Netflix’s To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before franchise has wrapped. She’s signed on to star as a crime-fighting chef in the Hulu series Take Out, an action-comedy series being penned by Randall Park.
The series will follow Iris, who struggles to balance her big New York City restaurant job with her secret mission of destroying an underground crime syndicate. The series will reportedly mesh myriad kinds of genres to become both an irreverent look at the modern-day relationship comedy, while at the same time deconstructing one-dimensional tropes from martial arts pop culture.
The show is in early development at Hulu with 20th Television, and will see Park reunite with Michael Golamco, his co-writer on Netflix’s Always Be My Maybe, to write the pilot. Condor, Park, Golamco, and Hieu Ho will also serve as executive producers, whose Imminent Collision banner has a deal at 20th Television.
Condor said in a statement: “I couldn’t be more excited to embark on this epic journey with the best partners around, Imminent Collision. Thank you Hulu for your belief in our story, and we can’t wait to share it with the world!”
Condor is a talented up-and-coming actor who’s already proven she can lead a franchise, while anything Park is involved in is worth watching, so there should be plenty of hope for this genre mash-up.
Park recently signed on to make his directorial debut with an adaptation of Adrian Tomine‘s graphic novel, Shortcomings.
Condor has a host of other projects lined up, including HBO Max’s sci-fi romance Moonshot, female buddy comedy Girls Night, and another collaboration with Netflix in the form of Boo, Bitch, a comedy series about a high schooler who discovers she’s a ghost.
