Bristol-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Gifford masters the usage of different genres in his new single titled “Better Than Before”. He also cites modern producers as inspiration, some of which are: John Congleton, Frank Dukes and Nicolas Jaar.
One thing that surely makes this song stand out is how Gabriel produced it using mind-blowing means described as “street edged twilight pop” by Clash Magazine as well as darker electronic music.
Gabriel has not only has earned multiple plays in different tastemaker radio stations including Radio 1, BBC 1Xtra and BBC 6 Music, but he has also supported the likes of Loye Carner and Maribou in concert.
Now, let’s delve a bit more deeper into the song itself. The single “Better Than Before” featuring the vocalist and songwriter Sans Soucis is the second from his sophomore EP Daffodils In Transit and it gives us a glimpse of what kind of infused-pop Gabriel has in store for us. The track sheds some light on the nostalgic summer as well as gives hope to an optimistic future.
“Too often we’re surrounded by standards that support conformity rather than taking the time to hone those beautiful differences we should all be celebrating”, says Sans Soucis about the song.
He adds that, “Those standards are held by a constant need for approval, that has definitely had an impact in my life. The song is a way to normalise those feelings we all share at some point, but also a way to celebrate the resilience, commitment and faith in our creative process. We only really need our own approval“.
