“What’s Better?” is the dark & emotive new single from R&B artist and songwriter Siaira Shawn. Described as a song about true love and perfectly timed for cuffing season, the track sees Siaira Shawn floating effortlessly on top of minimal bass-heavy production crafted by Mars Today & Jordan Brooks.
Siaira uses her silky tone and poeticism to draw the listener into her world on “What’s Better?”, which is the folllow up to her last EP Tender and her ‘Island’ remixes featuring the likes of Hxns and Danny Dwyer, as well as recent support from COLORS, Soulection, EscapeTracks, Okayplayer and Earmilk, among others.
The San Francisco artist is known for a voice that is as rousing as it is soothing, as pillowy as it is soulful. she comes from a background in theatre, literature and poetry, and brings all of that creative expertise into her music career that has already boasted three EPs so far.
When we last spoke about Siaira in 2019, she wanted to know that while there was nothing new about someone writing songs about love and their romantic encounters, she very much felt that it was important that this was coming from an under-represented voice.
She added then that, “As a queer artist I make that aspect of my identity explicit in my music and media because even as it has become more acceptable to be queer in music, we are still marginalized and need more authentic representation”.
