John Cena To Star In Looney Tunes Live-Action/Animated Movie ‘Coyote vs. Acme’

Fresh off the success of HBO Max series Peacemaker (just renewed for a second season), John Cena has signed on to star in a Looney Tunes live-action/animated hybrid film titled Coyote vs. Acme.

Based on The New Yorker humour article ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ by Ian Frazier, and directed by Dave Green from a screenplay by Samy Burch, the film will follow Wile E. Coyote, who, after ACME products fail him one too many times in his dogged pursuit of the Roadrunner, decides to hire a billboard lawyer to sue the ACME Corporation.

The case pits Wile E. and his lawyer against the latter’s intimidating former boss – to be played by Cena – but a growing friendship between man and cartoon stokes their determination to win. The film is being developed by Warner Bros. (who own HBO Max), and Cena’s Peacemaker buddies Chris Defaria and James Gunn will produce.

This sounds like a good, post-modern idea with a bit more juice to it than a basic Wile E. Coyote/Roadrunner remake. This will be the fourth Looney Tunes movie to be a hybrid of live-action and animation, following Space Jam, Looney Tunes: Back In Action, and Space Jam: A New Legacy.

Since turning to acting permanently, Cena has shown impressive comedy chops, with roles in films such as Blockers, Vacation Friends, and both Daddy’s Home movies, so he’ll be right at home here.

Cena currently has a bunch of projects in the works, including teaming with Jackie Chan on Project X-Traction, Matthew Vaughn‘s spy film Argylle, political thriller The Independent, and two Fast & Furious films.

With Peacemaker continuing for a second season, his schedule is going to be packed, but he’s been used to that since his WWE days.
