Randall Park has signed on to join Will Ferrell and Jamie Foxx in Strays, an upcoming comedy being developed by Erik Feig‘s production company Picturestart for Universal. Josh Greenbaum (Barb And Star Go To Vista Del Mar) is directing, and the film will be a blend of live-action and CGI.
Ferrell will star as a stray dog who abandons his abusive owner, played by Will Forte. Foxx will portray a dog who befriends Ferrell’s canine. Details on Park’s role are unknown right now.
Dan Perrault (American Vandal) has written the screenplay, which was pitched to Louis Letterier (Now You See Me) and Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie), who are producing.
The project will serve as a reunion of sorts for Park in a few capacities. He previously worked with Ferrell on 2017 comedy The House, while Greenbaum oversaw a number of episodes of Park’s sitcom, Fresh Off The Boat.
Park was last seen in WandaVision and Young Rock, while he recently signed on to star in Netflix comedy series The Last Blockbuster. He’s currently filming Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom, and will have a voice role in upcoming Big Mouth spinoff, Human Resources.
If the great comedy cast can mesh with Greenbaum’s direction, whose Barb And Star was a glorious mix of insanity, Strays could be great fun. The film is currently set for a June 9, 2023 theatrical release.
