Nicolas Cage & Joel Kinnaman To Star In Thriller ‘Sympathy For The Devil’

Nicolas Cage and Joel Kinnaman have signed on to star in Sympathy for the Devil, a psychological thriller being directed by Yuval Adler and written by Luke Paradise.

The film follows a driver who finds himself in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse after being forced to drive a mysterious man who is only known as ‘The Passenger.’ As their white-knuckle ride progresses, it becomes clear that not everything is as it seems.

The synopsis draws comparisons to Collateral and 1995 HBO movie Night of the Running Man. The film is being produced by Hammerstone and Allan Unger, one of the producers, said that the project is “a tour de force featuring two incredible actors.”

Adler has directed thrillers Bethlehem, The Operative, and The Secrets We Keep, with the latter also featuring Kinnaman alongside Noomi Rapace.

Cage just signed on to star in A24 comedy Dream Sequence, while his upcoming projects include an adaptation of John Williams‘ classic western novel Butcher’s Crossing and action film The Retirement Plan. Kinnaman can currently be seen as the lead in Apple TV+ series For All Mankind, and can next be seen in John Woo‘s upcoming action thriller Silent Night.

Maybe we’ll learn more about Sympathy for the Devil over the next few months, but perhaps it’s better if we don’t. The film sounds like it would benefit from keeping its secrets close to the vest and have the audience go in knowing surprises are coming.

There’s no word yet on when the film will be released, but production begun earlier this week in Las Vegas.
