Richard Gere has signed on to star in his first film since 2017. The Pretty Woman and Primal Fear actor will lead an English-language remake of 2017 Hebrew-language film Longing. Israeli filmmaker Savi Gabizon, who wrote and directed the original film, will do the same for this one.
Gere will play an aging bachelor who discovers he had a son with an ex-girlfriend twenty years prior. From there he begins to evaluate his life and the choices he’s made that got him to where he is.
Daniel Bekerman will produce the project through his production banner, Scythia Films, while other producers include Alexander Vinnitski for Current Flow Entertainment, with Myles Nestel and Lisa Wilson serving as executive producers for The Solution Entertainment. Wilson said in a statement:
“I am thrilled to be working with Richard Gere for the third time after Arbitrage and Norman. When I read the script of Longing I knew immediately that this would be perfect casting and thankfully Richard concurred.” Director Gabizon added:
“I am looking forward to working with Richard, having such a great and special actor in my film is a dream come true for me.”
As mentioned, this will be Gere’s first film since 2017, where he appeared in comedy Three Christs and drama The Dinner, though he did co-star in BBC thriller series MotherFatherSon in 2019. He also has comedy film Maybe I Do, starring Emma Roberts, Diane Keaton, and William H. Macy in post-production.
Filming on Longing will take place in Ontario, Canada.
