Cynthia Erivo has signed on to star in Raising Wild, a psychological thriller series in the works for Apple TV+. MGM and Identity Media are developing the show, and Renée Zellweger will serve as an executive producer.
Erivo will star as a neuropsychologist who eventually falls from grace after she is wanted for fraud and kidnapping. As the series progresses, she will begin to question if she is the victim of a dark conspiracy or if she is actually a genuine threat to society. Amber Alexander has created the show while Damian Kindler (American Gods) will serve as showrunner.
Erivo previously earned an Academy Award nomination for playing real-life social activist Harriet Tubman in Harriet.
She was seen earlier this year alongside Tom Hanks in Robert Zemeckis‘ live-action Pinocchio remake and also featured in another Apple project; anthology series Roar from Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, the creators of GLOW.
Erivo also has a couple of other exciting projects lined up. She will star alongside Idris Elba in Netflix’s Luther film, which will serve as a continuation of the UK series of the same name. And she’s also attached to star in the two-part film version of uber-successful Broadway musical Wicked.
So expect Erivo to be a pretty high profile presence over the next few years, although Raising Wild is only in the early stages of development right now. But Apple have already had some success with thriller shows such as Severance, Slow Horses, and Black Bird, so they’ll hope to continue that good run here.
