Samara Weaving has signed on to star in Eenie Meanie, a heist thriller in development at 20th Century Studios from director Shawn Simmons.
Simmons has also written the script alongside Rhett Reese (Deadpool, Zombieland), with Paul Wernick producing. Deadline‘s sources say that the project will likely premiere on Hulu.
The movie will follow a former teenage getaway driver who is dragged back into her unsavory past when a former employer offers her a chance to save the life of her chronically unreliable ex-boyfriend.
Weaving has starred in films such as Ready Or Not, Netflix’s The Babysitter franchise, Scream VI, as well as Hulu series Nine Perfect Strangers over the last few years. If she’s not quite a scream queen yet, she’s at least a thriller fiend, so she’ll be right at home leading this sort of project.
She just wrapped production on Little Sky, Netflix’s first comedy pilot, in which she plays the lead role. And she’ll next be seen in comedy thriller Borderline and action-horror film Azrael.
Other upcoming films from 20th Century Studios include Vacation Friends 2, which hits Hulu in August, Kenneth Branagh‘s third Hercule Poirot film A Haunting in Venice, sci-fi thriller The Creator starring John David Washington and Gemma Chan, and comedy Quiz Lady with Awkwafina and Sandra Oh in the lead roles.
