Austrian newcomer band, Hidden Gemz, is on the rise. Even though they’ve recently graduated from school, the quartet has already begun making ripples in the music scene. This youthful ensemble comprises Didier (vocals), David (bass, keys, vocals), Mateo (E-Guitar), and Jonas (drums).
They skillfully blend a unique concoction of rap, indie, funk, and melodic tunes that echo the likes of Little Simz, Gorillaz, Outkast, and Yves Tumor. Such a diverse mix is not commonly found in the Austrian music scene, making Hidden Gemz truly stand out.
In the past few months, the band has showcased its robust and dynamic live performances, marking their presence on major stages. Their talent didn’t go unnoticed. They received an invite to Austria’s esteemed showcase festival, Waves Vienna, even before they launched their first track, showcasing their potential and the impression they’ve made on the industry.
Hidden Gemz marked their official entry into the music world with the release of “Miss Monroe” earlier this month. Interestingly, this track is one of their initial creations, penned when the band members were just 17.
Originally envisioned as a poignant love song, it evolved to self-ironically delve into the myriad of emotions adolescents experience. It’s a modern coming-of-age tale that captures the highs and lows of teenage years and self-realization. The lyrics, “I really need a girlfriend, boyfriend,” progressing to “do I even need a girlfriend, boyfriend at all?” culminate in the self-affirming, “Na-ah, I just need myself.”
The song encapsulates a universal message of self-empowerment and recognizing one’s worth. With lines like “Man if you talk about special you gotta look at yourself” and “Don’t believe you can’t achieve your goals and your dreams, it’s in your power,” Hidden Gemz instills optimism and a sense of purpose.
As Hidden Gemz steps into the spotlight with “Miss Monroe,” they promise a refreshing perspective and sound to the music scene. This band is certainly one to watch out for.
