After its many delays and drop-outs, it has felt as if Danny Boyle‘s Steve Jobs biopic would never finalized casting, let alone eventually hit theatres, but hopes are restored as the officially cast list is finally ready and confirmed! Based on Walter Isaac’s biography, Aaron Sorkin has adapted the screenplay for Boyle and will focus on three main apple product launches.
Michael Fassbender is locked in to play Jobs with Seth Rogen playing Apple co-founder, Steve Wozniak. Kate Winslet will be playing former marketing chief Joanna Hoffman, Jeff Daniels will take on the role as former Apple CEO John Scully. Katherine Waterston will be joining them as Jobs’ ex-girlfriend Chrisann Brennan while Michael Stuhlbarg will play Macintosh developer Andy Hertzfeld.
Co-starring along side the main cast are Sarah Snook as Macintosh project leader Andrea Cunningham, Adam Shapiro as Apple Computer Senior VP of Software Engineering Avie Teavian as well as Ripley Sobo and Mackenzie Moss playing Jobs’ daughter Lisa Brennan during various stages of her life. Alongside this casting news, Universal have released an official logline for Steve Jobs;
“Set backstage at three iconic product launches and ending in 1998 with the unveiling of the iMac, the film takes us behind the scenes of the digital revolution to paint an intimate portrait of the brilliant man at its epicenter”.
Initially disappointments were made as both Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale left the project but I’m actually feeling really positive with how this cast has worked out. With Fassbender at its center and Winslet in supporting, you’ve already got two big, talented names in the mix. It’s also good to see Rogen taking on a more dramatic role, much like his friend and often co-star Jonah Hill. Steve Jobs doesn’t have a release date yet but Universal could release it late 2015.
