Hannibal has, for now at least, reached its satisfyingly blood-soaked finale, and like many ‘fannibals’ out there, I will mourn the loss of the singularly most beautiful, violent, and artistically realised show to reach screens in my lifetime. And though David Slade only directed a few episodes over three elegantly poised series; it was his work on the pilot, Apéritif, that set the smoulderingly fraught aesthetic of the show.
The Wrap has announced that not only will Slade executively produce Brian Fuller‘s next project, American Gods, he will also direct the pilot and several episodes throughout the season.
The Starz ordered American Gods will be an adaption of Neil Gaimen‘s novel of the same name. The plot follows an ex-conman, Shadow Moon, who finds himself in the middle of a war between the old gods and the new after taking a job as a bodyguard. Wrought with humour and intrigue, Gaimain‘s novel is in safe hands. American Gods will air on the Starz network in 2017.
