Season one of Marvel and Netflix’s Daredevil was definitely comic-book light. The action sequences were brutally kinetic, the show’s primary antagonist, Wilson Fisk, became an empathetic man with a utopic world vision rather than the shadowy Machiavellian gangster of the source material; even our hero’s iconic red costume wasn’t glimpsed until the finale.
However, with season two introducing a host of new characters, and drastic changes to the creative team behind the show; it could be we get something much closer to the Marvel’s comic books. Ahead of New York Comic-con, Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada has revealed a new concept poster for Daredevil‘s second season. Check it out below.
Joining the series will be Joe Bernthal as Frank Castle, better known as The Punisher. Bernthal‘s character will serve as an antagonist to Daredevil; a vigilante willing to kill in his battle against crime after his family is slain in a mob killing. Also Élodie Yung will enter as Elektra; a ninja assassin and romantic interest of Daredevil, her mercenary lifestyle also causes tension with the hero.
Behind the scenes, showrunner Steven S. DeKnight is being replaced by Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez; both of whom were writers and executive-producers on the show’s first season. With some new creative blood and some of the comic’s less reality-grounded characters entering the ring, it could be that Daredevil resemble Stan Lee and Bill Everett‘s original run. Daredevil season two is expected to hit Netflix in 2016.
