Whilst discussing their 1965 hit, “Help”, Paul McCartney told of how John Lennon‘s life was essentially “one big cry for help“. Speaking before his death Lennon lamented “I was fat and depressed, and I was crying out for help“. McCartney then exemplified his claim through the use of Lennon’s own lyrics: “He didn’t say, ‘I’m now fat and I’m feeling miserable.’ He said, ‘When I was younger, so much younger than today.’ In other words, he blustered his way through“. McCartney made these comments whilst talking about the song to Billboard.
