Alicia Vikander is a star in the making and has had a rather exciting and fruitful year. The versatile actor has already portrayed an artificial intelligence, a secret agent and a famous painter. Her next project could see her starring alongside James McAvoy in Wim Wenders’ (Paris, Texas and Wings of Desire) new romantic drama Submergence.
Loosely based on JM Ledgard’s best-selling novel by the same name, the story centres on two lovers separated by thousands of miles. Immersed in life-or-death situations the lovers find solace in the previous Christmas they shared together. McAvoy will portray James Moore who is enduring captivity by jihadist fighters in Somalia while Vikander’s character will be exploring the greatest depths of the ocean from her submersible.
Submergence will begin shooting in March in Europe and Africa. The script is written by Erin Dignam while Cameron Lamb is producing through Lila 9th Productions. Vikander can currently be seen in Tom Hooper’s The Danish Girl alongside Eddie Redmayne who’s generating major Oscar buzz for his portrayal of transgender artist Lili Elbe (born Einar Wegener).
