Despite the consistent fall in ratings this series, this year’s X Factor results show managed to reach an average of 8.4 million viewers on Sunday – an improvement on recent ratings but still a drastic fall in comparison to last year’s finale figure.
The figures were at their best at 21,55GMT when seventeen year old Louisa Johnson was crowned this year’s winner; which pulled in 9.7 million viewers. The audience also peaked when One Direction performed (9.1 million) and during Adele‘s soulful performance (9.2 million).
In recent weeks, the singing competition has struggled to get past the 7 million mark. The Sunday final figure differs considerably compared to Saturday’s show, which was watched be a mere average of 5.9 million.
The ITV show has also been defeated by BBC One’s rival dance show Strictly Come Dancing, having lost the battle for ratings consistently this year. Sunday’s Strictly semi-final results show, which saw Anita Rani eliminated was viewed by an average of 10.8 million; with an audience peak of 11.7 million. Perhaps it’s time to call it a day X Factor?
