As Mick Jagger recently revealed to Esquire magazine, Vinyl, which debuted on HBO this Sunday (February 14), was originally planned to be not just “a movie”, but a Casino-inspired type of movie.
Indeed, the singer told the magazine: “It was a movie idea. I went to Marty [Scorsese] and said that I’d like to do something that covers the actual inside of the record business, using (his film) Casino as shorthand.”
Although Martin Scorsese actually joined the project, along with writers Terence Winter and Rich Cohen, the original idea then developed into a 10-episode series, which traces the story of the 1970s music industry through the life of music executive Richie Finestra, played by Bobby Cannavale.
Part of the cast are also Olivia Wilde, Juno Temple, Ray Romano, and James Jagger (yes, Mick’s son).
