I was amongst the many who watched the horrifying accounts of those who suffered sexual assaults by Jimmy Saville in Abused: The Untold Story, with the BBC One documentary drawing in more than 2 million viewers as the victims struggled to be heard. The documentary was described by the Guardian as “a powerful, sometimes excruciating programme”.
One of the most pronounced examples of this discomfort came with the news that a Newsnight investigation into Savile was shelved in 2011, meanwhile Christmas tributes to the then recently deceased star were allowed to go ahead.
