It is a classic piece of cinema and one of the great Westerns, starring the Kings of Cool: Yul Brynner and Steve McQueen. So, in their infinite wisdom, MGM have decided to remake The Magnificent Seven with the likes of Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt and Ethan Hawke taking the reins.
Antoine Fuqua is in the director’s chair for a film which sees the simple Western town of Rose Creek fall to a ruthless outlaw and his gang, who wish to exploit the town’s gold mine. When a young widow seeks revenge, she crosses paths with a bounty hunter (Denzel Washington) who assembles a gang of his own to take on the outlaws and save the people of Rose Creek.
John Lee Hancock and Nic Pizzolatto have contributed to a screenplay which can find its base origins in world cinema classic The Seven Samurai. However, from the look of the trailer there’ll be more over the top action and explosions than in the original. The Magnificent Seven will blast into cinemas September 23 and you can watch the trailer here.
