Adam Wingard To Direct ‘Godzilla Vs Kong’ | Film News

Adam Wingard has signed on to direct the battle between two of cinemas’ biggest monsters, Godzilla Vs Kong. Wingard has directed The Guest, Blair Witch and Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of Death Note, but this will be his biggest project yet.

Both 2014’s Godzilla and this years Kong: Skull Island made over $500 million at the global box office, so the expectations for the highly anticipated team up will be sky high. Wingard will have to juggle the complexities of making a good film without hurting the vision mapped out by the directors of the two previous instalments. The box office take should be nothing to worry about.

He’ll have plenty of help though, as a writers room was set up back in March to help organise the film and break down the beats of the story. The room is headed by Terry Rossio (Pirates Of The Caribbean) and backed up by writers that have worked on such films as Star Trek: Beyond and The Maze Runner.

Wingard’s experience in the horror genre make him an intriguing choice, and with details on the plot sparse, we’re left to wonder what kind of interesting places he’ll take the giant monster mash and whether we’ll see something that’s a step or two away from the Apocalypse Now homage abundant in Kong: Skull Island.

Unfortunately, we have a long wait to find out. Wingard’s Death Note adaptation arrives on Netflix Friday, August 25. Godzilla vs Kong is set for a May 22, 2020 release.
