Alexander Wang For H&M Is Finally Here (First Look) | Fashion News

Alexander Wang’s collaboration with H&M is only weeks away. The highly anticipated collection was announced at the last Coachella festival, and it only seems natural for H&M to collaborate with Alexander Wang, one of the hottest designers of this generation. For those who have no clue who he is (if you’ve been living under a rock), Alexander Wang is an American fashion designer born in San Francisco, California to Taiwanese-American parents on December 26, 1983.

Though in his teenage years he attended summer design programs at the famous Central Saint Martins, he eventually attended Parsons (New York). After studying for only two years he launched his own label, a grand step for a young designer but his gamble paid off. Today, Wang has a women swear, menswear and handbag collection not to mention the numerous awards he has gained over the years including; CFDA Fashion Fund Award, Swiss Textiles Award, CFDA/Swarovski Designer of the Year Award for Accessory (these are not all). His collections are now stocked worldwide in over 700 outlets. He is known for his exquisite tailoring and using black fabrics, although now he seems to be stepping out of that box. His biggest and most popular accomplishment would be him becoming the creative director of Balenciaga.

H&M has collaborated with other giants of the fashion industry like Versace and Marni. Their upcoming collection with Alexander Wang, from what can be seen with the sneak peak photos, has greatly been inspired by sportswear. Wang spoke to Vogue UK about the collaboration saying, “H&M has done a great job in the past with archive-based collaborations, but I wanted to create a collection where most of the pieces have been designed from scratch. There are only a couple of items that are updates from past designs. Rather than creating affordable versions of expensive items, I wanted to design true performance pieces that are within the natural price points of sportswear of H&M, so we were able to create the best version of these pieces, through our vocabulary”. It will be one of the most unique collections H&M will feature so start saving those pennies, I know I will.
