Alicia Vikander Cast As Lara Croft | Film News

The Swedish actress, who has had a stellar awards season, managed to snag one of the most coveted roles and is now set to star as the titular character in a reboot of the game adaptation, which will be helmed by Roar Uthaug (The Wave).

As expected, little is known about the new take on Lara’s adventures other than the studios behind it and the core concept. Warner Bros, MGM and GK Films are behind the project, which similarly to the eponymous 2013 game will focus on the earlier years of the archeologist. The origin story has been reportedly rewritten, the new draft handed in by Evan Daughtery (The Huntsman: Winter’s War) and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Transformers 5).

Despite ongoing rumours that Star Wars Daisy Ridley is in negotiation to take on the lead the announcement made it clear that Alicia Vikander has been the studios pick from the beginning. She has already proven her acting chops in Ex Machina and The Danish Girl, while The Man From U.N.C.L.E and The Seventh Son testify to her action chops. Tomb Raider would be her first leading role in a blockbuster, shortly after her Oscar win, in a similarl fashion to Angelina Jolie’s path to the role so it would be intriguing to see how this adaptation would turn out.
