The news comes as no surprise, that Amy Poehler – accomplished actress, comedian, producer, writer, Golden Globe host and all around wonderful human being – has been awarded a star on the coveted Hollywood Walk of Fame. Poehler was accompanied to the ceremony by her two children Archie, 7 and Abel, 5, and her parents William and Eileen Poehler.

Her friends Rashida Jones, Maya Rudolph and Mike Schur also turned up to celebrate her achievement. Jones began by sharing a few words about her dear friend and former co-star, “Congratulations, my dear friend, you have the unique combination of boundless talent and unwavering integrity”. Poehler then began to deliver an equally heart-warming and funny speech (very reminiscent of her).

“I’ve been told I’m in-between Roseanne Barr and Sally Field, which also describes my career in a way, if I play my cards right. I wanna share a story with you from this morning. I woke up and I felt so excited to be here with my friends and family and I had tea with my family and I received a text from Carol Burnett, which was really exciting and I’m front-door bragging about that, she did text me this morning. We’re friends. I have her number. And she said, ‘best of luck on getting your star’.

Then I went to the gas station and as I was pumping my gas, I left my wallet on the roof of my car, and I drove away, and I thought I had lost my wallet forever, but it was returned to me just an hour ago from a charming, slim gentleman who works at Ford models, who goes by the name of Dilly. And I tell you this story to remind us that people can be good, that no one can do it alone, and I still pump my own gas”.

Poehler continued by thanking her friends and colleagues before recognizing her family and upbringing, “Growing up as a daughter of two public school teachers, I knew very little about Hollywood or Los Angeles and I’d never seen the Walk of Fame. I had no brush with greatness. I knew no one that was an actor or writer. I never imagined I would be here, truly. It’s a genuine honor”.

She also took the time to honour her two sons by giving them an extra special shout-out “Thanks for coming to this weird thing, and thank you for understanding all the time when I have to go to work. I really appreciate it. You guys are awesome guys. Thank you for filling me with love and laughter every day”.

It’s been a very busy year for Poehler, she began by hosting the Golden Globes with close friend Tina Fey, she then went on to dominate the summer box-office with the inventive and poignant Inside Out, she filmed the forthcoming comedy The House alongside Will Ferrell, and she is currently gearing up for the premiere of her upcoming comedy Sisters.

“I always say to myself, ‘Next year won’t be as busy’. And it keeps getting busier”, Poehler said at the ceremony with a laugh, “I like to think that with it, my capacity for it all expands”. She also added that receiving the star was one of the highlights of her year. “It’s very exciting to think about being honored that way, among all those names”, she said. “There’s really no joke to be made about it for me. I was genuinely touched. The first thing I thought of was, ‘I can’t wait to tell my parents’“. Congratulations, Amy. You are beyond worthy.
