Andrew Garfield, Oscar Isaac & Mia Goth In Talks For Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein’

Days after winning an Oscar for Best Animated Feature for Pinocchio, Guillermo Del Toro is already looking ahead to his next film.

We know that the director is working on a live-action Frankenstein film for Netflix and, per Variety, Andrew Garfield, Oscar Isaac, and Mia Goth are in talks to star.

Del Toro has been developing the project – based on author Mary Shelley‘s classic 1818 novel – for several years, but it’s currently unclear how faithful his interpretation of the source material will be. Frankenstein is a part of the filmmaker’s multi-year deal with Netflix, where del Toro has a number of projects in various stages of development.

Discussions with the actors are reportedly in the very earliest stages, so we’ll see what happens. But it’s no surprise that big names are looking to work with Del Toro, whose win last Sunday was his third Academy Award victory after The Shape of Water won Best Picture and Best Director in 2017.

Garfield is having a busy week of negotiations, as he’s also in talks to star alongside Florence Pugh in romance film We Live In Time. Isaac’s 2022 was headlined by MCU series Moon Knight, and his latest role will be voicing a few characters in the upcoming Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

It’s especially exciting that Goth is in talks for Frankenstein, as she’s becoming a true scream queen over the last few years with towering performances in Ti West films X and Pearl, and Brandon Cronenberg‘s Infinity Pool. She’d be a particularly good fit here.

There’s currently no release date for the film. But with Netflix securing a highly-coveted Oscar thanks to Del Toro’s Pinocchio, expect them to let him take all the time he needs to get his follow-up film right.
