One of the most iconic figures in today’s music industry, Angélique Kidjo has paved her own path. Lasting for almost 40 years, Kidjo has come a long way since her debut, Pretty, released back in 1981. She is known for her diverse music and incredibly creative music videos, as well as singing in four different languages: Fon, French, Yorùbá and English. Plus, she also has her own personal language that she often uses.
2018 brings about a brand new project for Kidjo, as she gets ready to release her next studio album, Remain In Light, a remake of the infamous LP by new wave American band Talking Heads.
Inspired largely by early rap and African academic literature, it has evidently served as a fount of musical prowess for Kidjo, who talked about listening to it when she was still in jazz school. Released in 1980, Kidjo talks about “bringing it back to Africa” with a modern touch that marks the turn of the century.
“Once In A Lifetime” is one of the more famous songs on the original LP, that is now being recreated by Kidjo with her own unique style. It will be featured on Remain In Light, which is due out on June 8.
