Anna Faris will produce and star in the independent comedy Summer Madness. She will play dual roles in the project, playing both lead roles as twins. One is broke and foul-mouthed while the other is successful and elegant.
When the former twin is disowned by her wealthy and conniving mother, she must rally her dysfunctional family to appear picture perfect in order to win a large cash prize at her mother’s annual gala. James Mottern will direct the film from an original screenplay written himself.
Exchange will produce the film, with the company launching worldwide sales at the American Film Market in Santa Monica, which begins Wednesday, November 6.
Faris currently stars in the sitcom Mom alongside Alison Janney. She’s probably best known for her roles in the Scary Movie series, but her last project – a remake of the 1987 comedy Overboard – made a healthy $91 million from just a $12 million budget.
She’s always been a talented actress who never quite got a huge break in a massive comedy solely driven by her. There’s an alternate universe where The House Bunny or What’s Your Number? is a cultural hit and Faris is a household name. Summer Madness sounds like it should give her the chance to really command the screen in a double role.
Brian O’Shea, head of the Exchange, said of the project: “Anna Faris is a comedy icon with global value. We are thrilled to bring a studio-level actress to an indie marketplace”.
Production on the film will begin in the Spring.
