Another ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Reboot In The Works | Film News

Remember Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows? No? The 2016 sequel to the 2014 TMNT reboot starring Megan Fox, Will Arnett and Tyler Perry? A movie that lost Paramount an estimated $75 million?

Don’t fret, no one remembers either of those films, but it’s just proof that Hollywood has tried to reboot the TMNT franchise already. And guess what? They’re trying again.

A CGI TMNT reboot is in the works from Nickelodeon and Point Grey Pictures, the latter of which is Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg‘s production company.

Jeff Rowe (Gravity Falls, Disenchantment) will direct, while Brendan O’Brien (Neighbors, Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates) will write the script. Expect a new crew of actors to play Raphael, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Leonardo.

Although it’s worth an eye roll or two to see another nostalgia-driven piece of IP get the reboot treatment just a few years after its last film failed (and this will keep happening so we might as well save the eye rolls for something else), this project at least has some promise thanks to Rogen and Goldberg’s involvement, as well as Rowe’s; anyone connected to Gravity Falls is a plus.

This new TMNT movie will mark the first-ever CG production at Nickelodeon Animation Studios. Paramount will handle worldwide distribution. Obviously TMNT remains a well known brand, but it’s hard to know whether that will translate to box office success. Do people still care enough about TMNT to go to the cinema to watch a CGI version of a show they might have seen as a kid?

Nickelodeon and Paramount will be hoping that is indeed the case. If not, we may be sitting here in five or six years time asking if anyone even remembers that CGI TMNT film?
