Anthony Mackie is closing in on a deal to reunite him with fellow MCU star Frank Grillo to star in a remake of the 2010 French film Point Blank (A bout portant), which is being developed at Netflix, per Collider.
Joe Lynch (Mayhem) will direct from a script penned by Adam G. Simon (Man Down), with Joe Carnahan producing with Grillo via their War Party banner, while French producing giant Gaumont is involved as well. Production is slated to start this summer with a budget of around $12 million.
Mackie will play a nurse who’s “forced to spring a wounded murder suspect from the hospital when the man’s brother kidnaps his pregnant wife and wants to make a trade”. Grillo will play the wounded man, who needs to be kept alive long enough to make the trade. Throw in some dirty cops, and you’ve got the making of a tense thriller.
It will be good to see Mackie and Grillo take on roles that aren’t superheroes or grizzled badasses, as Point Blank‘s appeal comes from revolving around two ordinary men on the run. The original film is a tight, mile-a-minute 87 minutes so this remake should allow for similar thrills.
This will be the first time Mackie has worked with Netflix, but not for Grillo, who already scored a hit with the streaming giant with the action movie Wheelman. This film currently doesn’t have a release date, but with shooting happening this summer, expect Point Blank to hit all Netflix territories sometime in the second half of 2019.
