Anya Taylor-Joy is stepping up to replace Emma Stone in Searchlight’s darkly comedic thriller The Menu, which will also star Ralph Fiennes.
Set in the world of eccentric culinary culture, the film will follow a young couple who visit an exclusive restaurant on a remote island where an acclaimed chef has prepared a lavish menu. Taylor-Joy will play one half of the couple who are surrounded by a dining table full of eccentric guests.
Mark Mylod (Succession) will direct from a script by Will Tracy and Seth Reiss. Adam McKay and Betsy Koch will produce.
There’s no word on why Stone had to drop out of the film, by Taylor-Joy is a more than adequate replacement. She’s awaiting an Emmy nomination for her role in The Queen’s Gambit, one of the biggest streaming hits of the last year. That series has catapulted her to a new level of stardom, and she’s cashing in with a host of interesting projects.
Alongside The Menu, Taylor-Joy has also signed on to star in George Miller‘s Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa, David O. Russell‘s untitled period drama alongside Christian Bale and Margot Robbie, Robert Eggers‘ viking drama The Northman.
She will next be seen starring in Edgar Wright‘s psychological thriller, Last Night In Soho.
The Menu has been in the works for several years, but is only now on its way to the big screen. Next to those aforementioned projects Taylor-Joy is starring in it almost seems quaint in comparison, but an original dark comedy is a nice addition to a resume. Once all these films come and go, it’s possible Taylor-Joy is one of the biggest movie stars in the world. We’ll wait and see.
