The former President of the USA, Barack Obama has an annual tradition of listing his favourite music and books of the year. On New Year’s Eve he has revealed his best picks of 2017.
Among the president’s choices are such hits like Camila Cabello‘s “Havana“, DJ Khalid‘s “Wild Thoughts” featuring Rihanna, Jay-Z‘s “Family Feud” featuring Beyoncé, Andra Day‘s “Rise Up” and others.
The list also includes “Humble” from Kendrick Lamar‘s album DAMN which features the line “I blew cool from AC, ay, Obama just paged me, ay“. They’ve been known to be each other’s friends and fans for a while; Kendrick’s songs appear on such list not for the first time.
From hip-hop and R&B to pop, indie rock and even country songs – Obama’s list is diverse and most of the named tracks are extremely popular releases from last year. This is how he announced the list on Facebook:
“During my presidency, I started a tradition of sharing my reading lists and playlists. It was a nice way to reflect on the works that resonated with me and lift up authors and artists from around the world. With some extra time on my hands this year to catch up, I wanted to share the books and music that I enjoyed most. From songs that got me moving to stories that inspired me, here’s my 2017 list — I hope you enjoy it and have a happy and healthy New Year.”
