No, it’s not a Kanye West and Jamie Foxx reference. Instead, the BBC have announced a new limited series, Gold Digger, starring Ben Barnes (Dorian Gray, The Chronicles of Narnia) and Julia Ormond.
According to Deadline, the thriller will see Barnes playing “Benjamin Golding, the thirty something copyrighter with a shrouded past who becomes involved with an older woman Julia Day, played by Ormond.
Ormond’s Day, a mother and a wife who has spent her whole life putting the needs of others before herself, falls in love with Golding, a man 25 years her junior. It looks at how their unconventional relationship impacts her family as the secrets of their past are revealed and investigates whether Benjamin is really the gold digger that they think he is“.
The six-part dramas will be produced by ITV-owned Mainstreet Pictures, and it will mark Barnes’ return to the BBC after more than a decade. The always classy Julia Ormond is a great add to the cast, and a good choice for the role of mother, falling for a younger man.
Given the talents involved and the fact that the series will mostly focus on Barnes and Ormond’s relationship, I’m sure we are in for a great treat in this mystery thriller that will have most of us hooked.
