As soon as last year’s IT concluded with the promise of a second chapter starring adults, fans began fantasy casting a bevy of stars joining the film in what felt a bit too ambitious. But perhaps not. A month or so ago we learnt of Jessica Chastain‘s confirmed involvement as an adult Beverly, much to the delight of fans, and now two other big names have entered the fray.
Bill Hader and James McAvoy are in talks to join the horror sequel, per THR. Hader quickly became a fan-favourite casting choice after Finn Wolfhard‘s performance in the first film, but McAvoy is a bigger surprise, and he’s in talks to play the adult version of Bill Denbrough, who was played by Jaeden Lieberher in the first film.
If the deals are completed, a trifecta of Chastain, Hader and McAvoy to kick off the casting of Chapter 2 would be a huge coup, and would reunite the three actors who worked together on The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby.
Director Andy Muschietti is set to return for the sequel, while the child actors are set to reprise their roles from the first film for flashbacks and Bill Skarsgard will also return as Pennywise the Clown. Gary Dauberman is returning to write the script.
The sequel will pick up with the Losers 27 years after the events of the first film, when the memories of that traumatic summer begin returning and they’re all forced to head back to Derry to do battle with evil once again. Chapter 2 is set to head into production this July before arriving in cinemas on September 6, 2019.
