Billy Porter (Pose) and Luke Evans (Nine Perfect Strangers) have signed on to star in the drama Our Son from director Bill Oliver (Jonathan).
Oliver has co-written the script alongside Peter Nickowitz. Fernando Loureiro (Frances Ha) and Guilherme Coelho (Orphans of Eldorado) will produce via their company, Tigresa.
The film will follow a divorcing couple fighting for custody of their 8-year-old son.
Porter is a multi-faceted creative talent probably best known for FX’s Pose, but he also recently appeared in Amazon’s live-action Cinderella remake, The Twilight Zone reboot and American Horror Story: Apocalypse.
He’s currently working on his directorial debut Anything’s Possible – which follows trans high school senior Kelsa as she navigates her last year in school, crossing paths with fellow student Kahl, with the two juggling the ups and downs of their blossoming relationship – and also developing queer teen comedy To Be Real for Gabrielle Union‘s I’ll Have Another Productions.
Evans recently starred in Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers, and has Disney’s live-action Pinocchio lined up for later this year. He’s also scheduled to star in Apple’s action series Echo 3, which is expected to premiere soon.
Both Porter and Evans have also made their mark in the music industry, with Porter recently dropping his single ‘Children’ and Evans releasing his debut studio album ‘At Last’ in 2019.
Hopefully we can learn more about Our Son soon, but even with its bare bones synopsis, a custody battle drama revolving around a gay couple has rarely been depicted on screen, so the film has the chance to be groundbreaking.
