Brad Pitt & Josh Brolin Developing Mystery Series ‘Outer Range’ At Amazon | TV News

Josh Brolin and Brad Pitt are developing a mystery series titled Outer Range at Amazon. Brolin will star and also produce alongside Pitt. Created by playwright Brian Watkins, the series follows Royal Abbott, a rancher who discovers an unfathomable mystery on his land at the edge of the Wyoming wilderness, forcing him to grapple with the unknown.

Watkins has written pilots for Hulu/Amblin and the USA Network. He’s currently adapting The Assassination Of Bangwain Spurge for Annapurna, and will also produce the movie Ultraluminous with Steven Soderbergh and Jennifer Fox.

For Brolin, this will be his first major TV role since the late 80s/early 90s when he had a role on western series The Young Riders. While Outer Range probably won’t arrive this year, Brolin is prepping for a big 2020, as he has a role in Denis Villeneuve‘s Dune (along with seemingly half of Hollywood) and also Sean Penn‘s Flag Day.

Pitt just won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar, but actually already had two Oscars for his producing work with Plan B – for The Departed and Moonlight. He’s shifted impressively into the producer role in the latter half of his career, often helping develop good projects. Hopefully this is another one of them.

PLan B is also producing Amazon’s upcoming series The Underground Railroad from Barry Jenkins, while it also has ZeroZeroZero arriving on the streaming service in March, as well as the remake of UK series Utopia in the works with Gillian Flynn as showrunner.
