British Canadian Artist Counttessa Releases New Track ‘Only I’

Originally from Bridport, England, and based in Kelowna, British Columbia, Counttessa chose her stage name to pay homage to the duality of roles in the Opera, as there always seems to be a maid and countess.

Her name also serves as a reminder to her to count musically, whether it’s rhythm and timing or music theory. She combines her classical training with a lifelong passion for songwriting to create music that is somewhere in the middle.

Her new single “Only I” is a song about fulfilment, according to the artist. It was created in collaboration with New York based producer and brass guy Daniel Flam, who has also worked with the likes of Kanye West, Elton John and Lil Nas X.

Speaking about the song, Counttessa says, “This song by Oneg Shemesh really touched me in a very deep personal way. I took too many hits in 2021 and I crumbled. Brick by brick, a wall rose, overcompensating, alternative solutions… and it had no foundations“.

Counttessa takes on a variety of overlapping issues in her music by employing popular subjects like sexuality, relationships, and friendship. The relationship between people, the sound of the words themselves, and stimulation and study of deep feeling are all recurring topics.

She aspires to evoke her childhood memories and magnify the feeling of the spectator by producing compositions that generate poetic images that leave traces and balances on the brink of recognition and estrangement by using a poetic and frequently metaphorical vocabulary.

Her music resemble dreamy scenes in which fiction and reality collide, pop and opera collide, meanings alter, and the past and present collide. Time and memory are always important.
