Introducing Aqyila, who is a new R&B singer-songwriter for Sony Music Entertainment. She has brought to life the official music video for her global hit “Vibe For Me”.
Ontario native Aqyila is only 22-years old and we can only expect greatness coming for her. She begun writing songs and singing covers in her bedroom and in 2020, she decided to have some fun and started singing about a bob shaped wig that she titled “Bob For Me” that took over and gave her 20 million views on TikTok.
The response came from all around the world. Nearly 5 million TikTok users created their own videos with the song and eventually fans demanded a full version which she recorded and shared with the title “Vibe For Me (Bob For Me)”.
Since its release, it accumulated over 10 million streams worldwide and over 3 million YouTube views. In countries such as Brazil, the Philippines and New Zealand it landed on the Spotify Viral 50 chart. The clip also caught the attention of Merrick Hanna, Dixie, Monica and Lizzo.
Speaking about the success of the song, Aqyila says, “I was shocked. I was singing about a wig for fun. I wasn’t doing anything crazy or outrageous to go viral. I was just being myself. I didn’t expect anything. So, it was a really great feeling”.
The video takes the viewers back in time to the early 2000s bringing nostalgia. The video was directed by Kevin Lien and showcases the artist’s bright and charming aura.
The song not only gives a good rhythm and sensation but also has amazing lyrics that bring a message of positivity, female-empowerment and self-love like “Nobody’s quite like you / Baby you got confidence, it’s true / You got a way with your words / Forget a stage, you’ll be heard / You elevate, know your worth“.
