Dixie D’Amelio isn’t the only singer in the family, as Charli D’Amelio is demonstrating!
Shortly after the season two finale of Hulu‘s The D’Amelio Show aired on Wednesday, the 18-year-old TikToker and Dancing with the Stars contestant released her debut single, the piano ballad “If You Ask Me To“, which is about relationships and romantic jealousy.
Charli explained the motivation behind her entrance into music and the reasons why it felt like the ideal moment to release a song in a press release. “I’ve always loved music and performing. Once my online following started growing I was able to showcase my passion for dance, but I felt that with so many other people entering the music space there wasn’t room for me,” she said.
The second season of The D’Amelio Show followed Charli as she honed her creative talents to produce music. However, a press statement stated that she lacked a “clear plan to release the music.” She decidedCharliD Amelio to release the song as excited about the potential business opportunity rose.
She said that “If You Ask Me To”, which was created and recorded relatively early in her first few songwriting sessions and “quickly became [her] favorite”, was co-written by Charli, Austin Saxton, Emi Seacrest, and Michael Schiavo with production from Greg Keller.
“I tinkered with it and changed up some lyrics and production over the last several months and got it to a place that made me truly happy”, she added. “I’m very proud of the work the team and I did on this song, and am so excited for the world to finally hear it“.
