Chris Hemsworth Still Wants To Play Thor After ‘Avengers 4’ | Film News

It’s a very interesting time in the MCU. With Avengers: Infinity War set to kick off the beginning of the end for some of the most iconic Marvel heroes, the massive two-part movie marks the final film in the contracts of many long-standing regulars, leaving them to make a decision as to whether they want to still play the characters that have defined them for the best part of a decade.

We’ll likely be hearing little snippets about this from many of the actors in the same position, but Marvel fans should feel cautiously optimistic about not having to watch another actor inhabit the role of Thor. Speaking during promotion for upcoming war movie 12 Strong, Chris Hemsworth confirmed that he would love to return as the hammer-wielding superhero:

“I’ve just, literally two days ago, finished Avengers 4 and that’s my contract – my preexisting contract is done now, so it’s kind of like, ‘wow, that’s it.’ Two or three films ago I was like, ‘okay, a couple more.’ I was enjoying it but I was like… I felt a little restricted.

And after this last experience with Taika [Waititi], and actually these last two Avengers, I feel like we’ve reinvented the character a number of times – even in these next two, he evolves again, and you don’t get that opportunity often in a franchise. So I definitely feel a renewed sense of excitement and enthusiasm, and more so than ever, I think”.

“If I had the opportunity to do it again, I think I’d love to”, Hemsworth concluded. If the actor wants to return, it seems very likely that Marvel would want him back and may be able to work out a movie-to-movie contract similar to the one Robert Downey Jr. has been working on over the past few years, if Hemsworth doesn’t want to commit to another decade of superhero films, which would be understandable.

This is still a crossroads for many of the major players in the MCU, as the studio has mentioned Infinity War as an ability to end some story arcs and likely reintroduce some new ones (and some new characters?). So while Hemsworth seems eager to come back, there’s no guarantee everyone else will want to. Stay tuned.

Avengers: Infinity War will be released Friday, May 4. The sequel will arrive May 3, 2019.
